Back at CESAMD announced its Zen 2 architecture, cutting the manufacturing process down to 7 nanometers nmand offering greater performance and efficiency. Zen 2 is indeed on a roll. And, even with the next generation Ryzen that AMD revealed at CES looming on the horizon, these chips are likely to stay relevant well into the near future. There is so much more to Zen 2, so we have to dive in and explore everything that this 7nm CPU architecture can do.
These chips are the first consumer-ready processors based on the 7nm Zen 2 architecture, and are also the most affordable. Meanwhile, the Threadripper X, with its ridiculous 64 cores, has been slated for release on February 7. The final Zen 2 product will probably be in the next-generation consoles.
Now that most of the AMD Ryzen chips and a couple of Threadripper 3rd-generation processors are out, we have information on their respective prices. Below are how much each Ryzen 3rd-generation chip costs:.
The AMD Threadripper 3rd-generation chips that are either out now or have been revealed will set you back as follows:. It will be interesting to see, however, if the massive boost to technology will see the next generation consoles get a price bump. With the move to 7nm, the biggest improvements are to power efficiency. AMD Ryzen 3rd Generation processors see power requirements greatly decrease, which should result in lower temperatures, better overclocking and, of course, lower power bills.
As for core counts, the chiplets containing the physical cores have shrunk for Zen 2, which means that each processor can fit more cores. However, the AMD Ryzen 9 X boasts 12 cores and 24 threads while the Ryzen 9 Xwhich is already breaking world overclocking records thanks to this die shrink, boasts 16 cores and 32 threads.
Beyond core counts, Zen 2 allows for better performance overall. Not only do clock speeds see an improvement — up to 4. Well, that is, when the Threadripper X comes out in February. Hey guys I decided that since I am rooted, I have always wanted to see how Ubuntu would perform with are Intel atom processors. So I started out small and I am trying to boot a Core image of Ubuntu on the device. This is a screenshot of what I keep receiving when I try to boot Ubuntu. I was wondering what I did wrong in this process? If anyone can inform me of what I did wrong, I would greatly appreciate it. Sent from my ZEML. Attached Thumbnails. OP Senior Member. Does it matter? Thanks Meter : 1, Join Date: Joined: Jan Join Date: Joined: Dec My goal is to get Arch running natively and likely start with a minimal WM and then rebuild the interface from the ground up ground up is what Arch is known for so that I can basically run a full computer OS on it Hoping with the Intel SOC I'll get decent driver compatibility, may even work OOTB Hopefully others will want to join me and it could be a whole new mobile Linux distro based on Arch!

It is used as the basis for a number of different commercial and open source applications, such as: server virtualization, Infrastructure as a Service IaaSdesktop virtualization, security applications, embedded and hardware appliances. The Xen Project hypervisor is powering the largest clouds in production today. The rest of this guide gives a basic overview of how to set up a basic Xen system and create simple guests. Our example uses LVM for virtual disks and network bridging for virtual network cards.
It also assumes Xen 4. It assumes a familiarity with general virtualization issues, as well as with the specific Xen terminology. Please see the Xen wiki for more information. During installation of Ubuntu During the install of Ubuntu for the partitioning method choose "Guided - use the entire disk and setup LVM".
Then, when prompted to enter "Amount of volume group to use for guided partitioning:" Enter a value just large enough for the Xen Dom0 system, leaving the rest for virtual disks. Enter a value smaller than the size of your installation drive. Entering a percentage of maximum size e. Installing Xen Install a bit hypervisor. A bit hypervisor works with a bit dom0 kernel, but allows you to run bit guests as well. If you're running a version of Ubuntu before WiFi networks are tricky to virtualize and many times not even possible.
If you are feeling adventurous, please start here Xen in WiFi Networks. For this example, we will use the most common Xen network setup: bridged. You will also find an example on how to set up Open vSwitch which has been available since Xen 4.
Disable Network Manager If you are using Network Manager to control your internet connections, then you must first disable it as we will be manually configuring the connections.
Please note that you are about to temporarily lose your internet connection so it's important that you are physically connected to the machine. You should have your internet connection back at this point. The bridge folder only appears to be created after first creating a bridge with the ''brctl' command. Creating vms There are many options for installing guest images: virt-builder : A program for building VM disk images; part of the libguestfs set of tools xen-tools : A set of scripts for creating various PV guests virt-manager : A management system using libvirt Converting an existing installation Downloading pre-build guest images e.
PV guests are guests that are made Xen-aware and therefore can be optimized for Xen. List your existing volume groups VG and choose where you'd like to create the new logical volume.
If the VM didn't shutdown after the install above, you may manually shut it down.I like to do itbut you know our device is a x and ubuntu touch is a project for ARM archI'll check it if there is any chance! Thank you as long as it is attempted, I'll be happy. Yes I have tried many of those other methods for running Linux but none work for the 16gb Zeml as apparently Linux deploy can't use the external SD card.
I'll definitely try out yours when it is ready! Is there any dev out there that would be interested in bringing Ubuntu touch to our ZF2?

Quite an interesting OS and seems like it would fit in great with the x86 CPU we have available to us. I know there are other threads requesting this no dev responded to it saying if it would be feasible or impossible to do so. I know alot of you guys want ubuntu touch on the zenfone just for something different but its not worth it considering all the work that would have to be put into it just "to try something new". All other ubuntu phones are ARM based - if you'd try, this would be the first one on an intel chipset.
I imagine there are a lot of things broken in the x64 version of the code since no one's really using it. If you do, please do check out ubports. Personally, i own a BQ Aquarius 4. It is a functional OS, but it lags heavily in apps. The OS is also very tightly screwed down - every app must run in user space with only write access to the user home.
Interaction is limited through the ubuntu service layer, which means its quite difficult to code an app for say - whatsapp - because the service layer must sit in between you and the whatsapp API. The zenfone can definately run both but it lacks the usb c and mhl connectivity to drive a screen directly; perhaps when miracast is implemented properly in ubuntu OS it may become interesting to port. Until then, I'm not sure its worth the effort and all the x64 bughunting.

It's unfortunate that UT runs on so few devices that we have to purchase 5-year old ones. Hopefully Librem5 and PinePhone will start to change that.

There is a strong believe that Ubuntu machine cannot take full advantage of Hyper-v platform. This might have been true in the past but Microsoft has changed its attitude against Open source community. As you probably know, Hyper-v virtualization platform allows you to create two type of virtual machines.
Virtual machine Generation 1 which is basically used for legacy operating system and Virtual machine Generation 2 which includes new virtualization features and can emulate UEFI systems. This post is about installing Ubuntu This post will describe how to configure the Virtual machine as generation 2 and have the UEFI and secure boot enabled and make Ubuntu working with such settings…. Only a few people I know would perform an installation of Ubuntu using generation 2 option when creating the Virtual machine within the Hyper-v console but still not take full advantage of the hyper-v solution.
To perform such miracle, you simply need to know which settings to choose or you have to know that such settings exists…keep reading. To perform these installation steps, we have used the Windows Server Evaluation version which provide the latest version of Hyper-v.
Based on the version of Windows or Windows you are running, you might not see all the options selected as described here. No Panic! In the next section, we will explain how to configure these settings using PowerShell… Note that this procedure works only on Windows and later operating systems.
Step 1 — Go to your Windows or Windows server, open your Hyper-v console and select the option to create a new Virtual machine. Step 2 — The wizard starts. Step 3 — Provide the name and location information for your virtual machine and press Next.
Step 5 — Assign memory to your virtual machine as needed. When done, Press Next. Step 6 — Select the virtual switch that will be used by the virtual machine and Press Next.
Step 7 — Specify if you want to create a new virtual disk or connect to an existing one. When you have done your choice, Press Next. Step 8 — Select if you want to mount the Ubuntu iso file right away or not. Press Next when ready. At this stage, you have a ready to use virtual machine generation 2 and this configuration will work for sure if you want to install Windows operating system.
If you are planning to install Ubuntu If you try to boot your virtual machine and trying to boot from Ubuntu iso, you should see something similar to this. To make it works, you will need to edit the settings of the virtual machine, go to the security node and change the template used by the Virtual machine. If you do not see the Template option, please check the next section which explains how to do this using PowerShell Commands….
As soon as you have made the change and try to restart the installation process, you should see something like this asking you to proceed with your Ubuntu installation.
